The Walt Disney Co. shares rose on Friday after a report said that ESPN’s Jimmy Pitaro and company CEO Robert Iger had held early talks with the NFL and NBA regarding those leagues becoming minor investors in ESPN. CNBC reported that the cable sports leader had preliminary discussions with the NFL and NBA regarding new strategic partnerships and investing structures. NBA spokesperson: “We are proud of our long-standing relationship with Disney, and we look forward to furthering the discussion about the future partnership.” ESPN and NFL representatives declined to comment.
