Faruk Fatih Ozer was extradited from the United States to Turkey, where he faces charges of fraud, running a criminal group, and a host of other crimes. He was arrested by police in Istanbul upon his arrival, according to state media HTML1.

Ozer was arrested by Albanian police in August following an Interpol red alert against him. Ozer, founder and CEO at Thodex, fled Albania when his exchange abruptly went offline in last year. More than 400,000 users were left without access to $2 billion worth of cryptocurrencies.

The events around Thodex created a buzz in Turkey, where crypto was used to hedge against inflation. Ozer’s sister, brother and four senior employees were imprisoned and at least eighty-three people were detained in the course of the investigation.
