According to FactSet preliminary data, the S&P 500 ended Tuesday unchanged after unwinding earlier gains. However, that didn’t prevent the Nasdaq Composite clinching its best close since August. The S&P500 SPX + 0.00% closed essentially unchanged but managed to record its first consecutive closes above 4,200 since August. Stocks have struggled to hold above this level for the past nine months. FactSet data shows that the Nasdaq composite COMP. +0.32% rose 41 points or 0.3% to 13,017.43. This is its highest closing since August 16, according to FactSet. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, 0.15% lost 50.56 points or 0.2% to 33,042.78.
