The European Commission approved Broadcom Inc.’s VMW +5.19% acquisition of VMware Inc. , , sending VMware’s shares up 2.3% in premarket. Broadcom, a maker of infrastructure and chip software, announced a $61 billion deal in May 2022 to purchase VMware. However, the deal has faced regulatory scrutiny since then. The company announced Wednesday that it has received legal merger clearances in Australia, Brazil Canada South Africa and Taiwan and clearances for foreign investment controls in all the necessary jurisdictions. Broadcom is looking forward to working constructively with regulators all over the world. Broadcom believes that regulators will also see, when they complete their review, that the combination between Broadcom and VMware enhances competition in the cloud. This will benefit enterprise customers as they will have more control and choice over where their workloads are located. The company still expects the deal to be closed in fiscal 2023. Broadcom stock rose 0.6% in premarket.
